Ski-A-Thon for Girdwood Chapel -- 21 March 2005

We are having a Ski-A-Thon on March 21st, 2005 from 2 PM to 5 PM.  We will take pledges either for set amount or per run.  A run is one time up and down Chair 6 (or Chair 3 for those unable to go up Chair 6).  We are limited to 6 runs per hour--therefore there will be no more than 18 runs (which is a lot considering we'll be dealing with Spring Break Crowds).

From the Building Committee Meeting on 1 March

This was a big one and we're at a fun stage of planning.  Now we're talking about specifics, such as:

• Where will air ventilation be
• How many outlets will be in the chancel area
• What will lighting fixtures look like
• How many windows will we have
• What are our options for exterior surfaces
• How wide will doors be
• How will the front of the Chapel be lighted
• Will we have snow-melt on our exterior ramp

Some of our biggest decisions cut $65,000 from our estimated cost, dropping it to $920,000.  We decided to not build a covered drop-off or a covered deck.  This was part of our efforts to cut cost without cutting our usable interior space -- our priority.  We also cut quite a bit of expense by removing some windows and using more "standard" sizes.

We will soon be able to have some "prices" of items -- such as windows, tiles, beams, etc -- for churches to use in their fundraising.

Building Committee Meeting -- 1 March 2005

We have a building committee meeting coming up tomorrow night.  It's our 65% design phase meeting with our engineers.  We'll be fine-tuning our cost, building design, etc.

Forest UMC working August 21-30
